Didsbury resident Craig Martin took home the fame and glory of placing first at the Olds Idol competition, held at the Texas Mickey on Jan. 23.

The karaoke night was Martin’s first competitive singing event, where he performed songs by Bon Jovi and Elvis to nab the top spot.

“I was pretty nervous, mainly because of the competition,” said Martin, 26. “I had no idea, no intention of winning. I was in it for fun, and that calmed my nerves.”

As the winner of the competition, Martin took home his own personal karaoke machine, as well as a bouquet of flowers and a trophy.

“I would recommend the event,” said Martin, who said he will likely take part in the next Olds Idol. “Everyone there was fantastic, it was a great audience and atmosphere.”

Martin would like to extend his thanks to his friends, the Texas Mickey staff and the karaoke host for making his night a memorable one.
