Figure skating club getting ready for big, golden anniversary bash
Club's 50th annual carnival to celebrate club's history throughout the decades
The Didsbury Figure Skating Club will be holding its special 50th Anniversary carnival on March 4.
The annual figure skating show will be celebrating the club’s “golden” anniversary and everything gold, as well as performing a “through the decades” style set with themes from the 1960s, ’70s, ’80s and so on.
In addition to the performance the club will also be showing a slide show commemorating its growth and history in the community, and as well a special guest skater will perform.
The event will take place at the Didsbury Memorial Complex at 2 p.m. Admission is free but donations to the club are welcome, according to club officials.
“Hopefully we’ll have people who were with the club in the past here for the event,” said Shelley Trottier, Canskate coach and Modified Starskate coach with the club. “Past skaters as well as coaches. We invite them to come out to the event.”
This year the club is also looking to try a sponsorship program in order to make back part of the costs needed to put on the carnival.
The sponsorships are being offered in gold, silver and bronze ranks and will offer an advertising opportunity for the sponsor, as well as helping a local group, said Trottier.
Those interested in learning more about sponsoring the carnival can call Deana Campbell at 403-507-0906.
