RMAA teams heading to playoffs
The director of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Association (RMAA) said this hockey season has been “very successful.”
“Five of the eight RMAA teams qualified for playoffs,” said Mike Van Tetering, director of the organization. “This is the third consecutive time the Midget tier one has attended the provincial tournament.”
The association has 159 players, ranging from Pee Wee to Midget from the three communities of Crossfield, Carstairs and Didsbury.
“We formed a few years ago to keep kids in hockey and to create a positive experience for all players,” added Van Tetering. “We wanted to provide players from all three communities a hockey experience that was appropriate for their individual skill level.”
Pee Wee tier one and Midget tier one teams will be representing Zone Six in provincial tournaments. “The Pee Wees are in Lloydminster on March 15-18,” he said. “The Midgets play in Lac La Biche on March 15-18.”
The RMAA annual awards banquet will be held at the Didsbury Memorial Complex on April 16 at 5:00 p.m.
“We’ll also have early registration for the 2012-2013 season,” Van Tetering said. “We’re looking for volunteers for coaches, referees, directors, etc. We expect our player numbers to increase next year.”
