Stolen Camaro recovered, man charged
A stolen Camaro was recovered in Carstairs last week, said Cpl. Warren Wright of the Didsbury RCMP.
“Late last week, Carstairs RCMP Constable Sheldon Krasniuk drove by an address on Grey Street and 11th Avenue in Carstairs and observed that there was a Chevrolet Camaro or similar vehicle parked on the property,” said Cpl. Wright. “This observation corroborated information that he had received earlier that morning, that a stolen Chevrolet Camaro was parked on the property.”
Const. Krasniuk returned with a general search warrant on April 26, allowing him and members of the Calgary RCMP Major Crimes – Auto Theft Unit and Didsbury RCMP to lawfully enter onto the property and examine the vehicle to record the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
“The VIN affixed to the Camaro was located, queried and confirmed to be stolen out of Red Deer on October 8, 2009,” said Cpl. Wright.
A second search warrant was applied for and granted, allowing RCMP members to seize and remove the stolen 1995 black Camaro, as well as search the remainder of the property for any other stolen property.
A criminal charge of possession under $5,000 is currently pending against a 46-year-old Carstairs man, as Const. Krasniuk’s investigation continues.
