Pay-by-donation book sale supports library
The Friends of the Didsbury Library will be putting on their second yearly book sale on May 11 and 12 in support of the Didsbury library.
The sale, which will take place in the lawn bowling basement down the street from the Didbsury Curling Club, will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on May 11 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 12.
“We’re not selling the books. People come and take the books and make a donation,” said Judy Towell, one of the organizers for the sale.
All donations will be going to the Didsbury Municipal Library.
The donation-as-payment method was implemented two years ago, and Towell says it has been a very effective method that allows the group to apply for grants, and helps to cut down on the manpower needed to individually price every single book.
Book genres will range from fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, travel and more. Fiction books will be organized alphabetically by author and non-fiction by topic.
There will also be a “staff picks” table with recommendations by those running the sale.
“That way people can come right in and find what they want,” said Towell.
All books were either donated for the sale or are no longer in use by the library.
“It gives people the chance to find collector’s items, and books people haven’t been able to find,” said Towell. “It’s a lot of fun for us and we hope the patrons are having fun too.”
